There are two main types of home smoke detectors: ionization and photoelectric. An ionization smoke alarm (the kind ADT monitors) detects smoke when it disrupts the ionizing radiation occurring in the device.
A photoelectric smoke detector is triggered when smoke obstructs the light beam in the sensor.
ADT monitored smoke alarms provide dual-sensor heat detection: rate-of-rise and fixed-heat sensors.
The rate-of-rise sensor will trigger the smoke detector when rapid spikes in temperature occur in your home. The fixed-heat sensor will set off the alarm when the temperature in your home reaches 177° Fahrenheit.
Fido and Fluffy are family too. But they can’t get to safety on their own. In case of fire, your smoke detector will communicate with your security system and notify one of ADT’s six monitoring centers They will then alert your local fire department.

How do I change my ADT monitored smoke detector battery?
First, put your security system in test mode. Remove the smoke alarm by turning in a counter-clockwise direction. Switch out the batteries and replace the detector by turning clockwise. Ensure that it’s securely in place. Then, turn off test mode.
Why is my ADT monitored smoke detector beeping?
A beeping fire detector typically indicates a low battery. Change the battery as soon as possible to ensure your smoke alarm helps to protect you and your family properly. It could be time to replace the detector entirely if the beeping continues after you’ve changed the battery.
