Facebook Helps Thieves Rob “Friends”

We want to believe that our friends on sites like Facebook and Twitter are really our friends.

But how well do we know everyone who we connect with on social websites? Probably not as well as we would ideally like. A few people found out the hard way that you can’t trust everyone you connect with on social sites. More importantly: it’s not too wise to broadcast your location at any given time, especially as a new home owner or renter.

According to this story on, a small crime ring was busted for monitoring Facebook status updates and looking for opportune moments when “friends” were out on vacation or shopping.

The burglars stole an estimated $100,000 worth of goods. Watch the video below, then reconsider broadcasting your location to the world the next time you go out.

Scary stuff, right?
